Have you ever wondered what it actually takes to recycle plastic beyond putting it in a curbside bin? Join EcoPress Sacramento for a virtual introduction to Precious Plastic, a global open-source movement making plastic recycling knowledge, tools, and technology more accessible to communities around the world.
Over the past year, I've dedicated myself to learning the ins and outs of community-based plastic recycling: identifying different types of plastics, understanding material science, experimenting with processing equipment, troubleshooting machinery, developing products, and discovering new ways to give discarded materials another life. Now, I want to share that knowledge with you!
This workshop will introduce participants to:
The Precious Plastic Movement: Its origins, mission, open-source philosophy, and global community.
Plastic Identification 101: Understanding resin identification codes (#1–#7) and why different plastics require different approaches.
The Recycling Process: From collection, sorting, and cleaning to shredding, melting, molding, and creating new products.
